Visiting Loveland, Colorado
The Sweetheart City isn't just a return address — it's a genuinely worthwhile stop in northern Colorado, with a downtown built around art, sculpture, and its favorite holiday.
The Sweetheart Festival
Loveland's signature event is a free, family-friendly downtown festival held around Valentine's Day each year. Past years have included live music at the historic Rialto Theater, live ice sculpting, a "Little Miss Valentine & Mr. Cupid" contest, the Sweetheart Classic 4-mile race, a "Palace of Sweets" vendor area, and a beer garden — something for couples, families, and anyone who just wants an excuse to be outside in February.
The Love Lock Sculptures
Loveland is home to two of the largest love lock sculptures in the country — a 24,000-pound steel "LOVE" sculpture at the Visitors Center and a heart-shaped sculpture at Lake Loveland, each over ten feet tall. Couples bring a small padlock (or buy one locally), personalize it, attach it to the sculpture's grid, and toss the key — a permanent, physical version of the same sentiment the re-mailing program sends through the mail.
Where to eat
Downtown Loveland's historic district has built a genuinely good dining scene around its exposed-brick storefronts — worth a stop whether or not you're there for the holiday.
Scalzotto Italian Restaurant
Upscale northern Italian in an elegant brick-walled dining room, with wine pairings — a solid pick for a Valentine's dinner.
4th Street Chophouse
Fine-dining steaks and seafood in a sophisticated exposed-brick setting downtown.
Door 222 Food & Drink
Contemporary American small plates in an industrial-chic space — good for a lower-key date night.
Also worth a look: Henry's Pub (elevated comfort food), Betta Gumbo (Cajun/Creole), and A.K.A Kitchen (locally-sourced pub fare with a patio fire pit).

Sculpture gardens & public art
Benson Sculpture Garden
A ten-acre park with more than a dozen sculptures on permanent display, and home to Sculpture in the Park each August — one of the largest sculpture shows in the country.
Chapungu Sculpture Park
Twenty-six acres featuring handcrafted stone sculpture from Zimbabwean artists — an unexpected, worthwhile detour.
Downtown Public Art
Loveland's downtown carries an outsized public art collection for its size, including the bronze tribute to Ted & Mabel Thompson.
